Taffy Marie Martin was our first fur child. In October of 2005, I had an overwhelming feeling in my heart to adopt a dog. I was not sure why I was hit by this urge because I had not ever yearned or desired to be an animal owner. Animals are a very big responsibility.
My only experience with having a dog as a member of my family was Muffy. Muffy was a part of my life from birth until I was six years old. She was a collie, shephard, husky mix who was very gentle, big, and beautiful. Since I had not had an animal in my home since I was 6 years old, I was very confused by my feelings that I must have a dog now.
I went online and checked out rescue groups in Austin. Austin is a hotspot for animal rescue. I found a plethora of rescues needing help and finally stumbled on the site Ponderosa Pomeranian Rescue (PPR). Well, I remember that the woman who helped my mom with taxes when I was growing up had three Pomeranians and they were very beautiful and full of energy! I decided I wanted a Pomeranian.
I went to an adoption event at Petco in November to see if I could be a foster mom rather than an owner since I was not confident in my skills of being a dog owner. John and I were interested in two Pomeranians we had seen on the website. I filled out an application and had an interview. After the interview, a senior dog named Taffy was put into my arms.

Taffy was a red/orange/sable pommie. Her ears were oily due to medication for ear mites. She was 12 years old and had just lost her home. Her mom was put into a nursing home, and Taffy was doomed to be euthanized until PPR came in and rescued her. I thought she was a very quiet and gentle spirit and was excited that the rescue group even thought I was fit to foster this little senior citizen with oily ears.

In November 2005 I had a home visit, and Taffy became my first foster child. By January of 2006, PPR gave me this furry gift, and I became Taffy's second mom. It was an amazing experience!

For one year, John and I had Taffy. We learned so much about her. She loved car rides, and we took Taffy on a long car ride to Houston and the Gulf. She loved going to the dog park by Town Lake. She loved to be outside and would spend fifteen minutes three times a day out side just sniffing and walking around. She was also very proud with lady-like manners. She was also no nonsense. She was very astute and learned quickly. Petco, Petsmart, Amy's Ice Creams and mom's favorite Pub (Draught House) were her favorite venues. Taffy was also not a barker, but would talk with a deep rumble in her throat when I was not doing things properly. She also had a hearty appetite for ox tail, but hated dog biscuits! Taffy loved cooked vegetables and rice, too. Her favorite color was purple as was mine! Unlike me though, Taffy was very vain and loved her monthly beauty appointments. Plus, she really enjoyed having her hair brushed daily.

Taffy crossed the rainbow bridge on December 30, 2006. I now believe that Taffy's original mom was a Christian woman who prayed to God that he find her baby a good home. God responded by calling me. I hope I served them all well.

We miss you Taffy Marie!
